Pre-saves are a great strategy for building anticipation and early traction for an upcoming album or single. When fans pre-save, that release will automatically be added to their streaming library as soon as it's released, allowing them to be among the first to listen.
Follow these steps to set up a pre-save patch:
First, create a new patch using one of the options below:
Sidebar - Click the "Create" button at the top of the sidebar and select "Patch" from the menu options
Home Page - Click the "Add patch" button at the top of the Home page
Patches Page - Click the "Add patch" button at the top of the Patches page
Choose Pre-save from the action options
Give your patch a descriptive name. Names are important for helping find patches within projects and in analytics. Patch names can identify a campaign, album, or placement on your website.
Enter the release date and time when your release will be available.
Set Local or Global release timing. Here's how each option works:
Local (Recommended) - This is the standard method used for most releases. Your release will be available at the time you set, based on the fan's local time. For example, if your release time is midnight, fans in New York will get your release at midnight; fans in Los Angeles will get the release 3 hours later (midnight local time), and so on.
Global - This option is not common. This will assume that your release is available at the same time across the globe, regardless of a fan's timezone. For example, if your release time is midnight, fans in New York will get your release at midnight; fans in Los Angeles will get the release at 9pm local time, and so on.
Next, you'll need to add your release URL, UPC, or URI. This ID may or may not be available yet, depending on your distributor. Don't worry, if you don't have this ID yet, you can still create and start using your pre-save. Use one of the options below:
If your release has been delivered to services:
Ask your distributor for the URL, UPC, or URI for your release.
Paste this ID into the Media ID field and Sonikit will search all available streaming services.
Toggle the services that you'd like to include in your patch. If you don't see a particular service, you can save your patch with the services that are found, and then add another service individually later. After your patch is saved, navigate to the "Services" tab and follow step 4 to add other services individually.
If your release has not been delivered yet:
Click the "Add service manually" link
Enter your release title and artist. You can optionally upload album art or leave this field blank.
Toggle the services that you'd like to make available.
Click "Create patch" to save your pre-save patch
π¨ IMPORTANT: You can create and use pre-save patches without a UPC, but you need to add your UPC before the release date and time you set, otherwise fans will not get your release on time. As soon as your UPC is available, update your patch with the UPC so fans can listen as soon as it's released.
